Shawna and Adam are crazy awesome. And their wedding followed suit. We met Adam and Shawna about a year ago. They live in San Diego and are also wedding photographers who found us while planning their Vermont barn wedding.
The first thing they said when they sat down at the table was: “Well, we had a little change of plans and I think we’re going to get married in Italy.” And the first thing we thought was “Yup, we’d like to be there for that.” One thing led to another and we ended up shooting their wedding in Italy and (this is my favorite part) becoming awesome friends. Adam and Shawna also talked our B!G DEAL BRANDING partners Krysta and Vince into being a part of the wedding and had Vince do the video and Krysta helped Shawna with her make-up (turns out she knows how to do that stuff and is really good at it… which is weird for anyone who knows her.)
The wedding itself took place in Tuscany about an hour outside of Florence in a little town called Poppi. Adam and Shawna rented a villa for the week that had five buildings with enough rooms for all their guests. The property is spectacular with everything from a spa and a couple of swimming pools, to a pond and a vegetable garden along with breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside.
To top it all off, Adam and Shawna got married in the medieval part of Poppi in a freakin’ CASTLE. For reals. Like a real freakin’ CASTLE. It was insanely awesome!
We loved every single minute of these wedding festivities. We felt so incredibly blessed and honored to document such genuinely awesome people in such an phenomenally beautiful location. I (Courtney) may have walked outside of our villa on the first morning and burst into tears about how blessed I felt to be there for THAT wedding. We are grateful for Adam and Shawna being in our lives, for the opportunity they gave us to be a part of such an epically awesome wedding, for having priorities that are so admirable while planning their day, and for being the most perfect clients we could ever ask for. It was TRULY our pleasure to be there.

The day we arrived we took Adam and Shawna into the old, medieval part of Poppi for a little pre-wedding shoot.
THE WEDDING DAY: The weather was calling for rain. It had rained the day before and we were expecting the weather to turn nasty. Instead, it became the most perfect day we ever could have asked for.
The day started with a little pre-wedding yoga session with all the girls and a trip to a local coffee shop for the guys.
The wedgie shot (courtesy of Adam’s son) might be my favorite getting ready shot we’ve ever gotten ;)
(Below) The castle where the ceremony took place (Castello dei Conti Guidi, built in 1191.)
Because Adam and Shawna wanted to actually get legally married in Italy (as opposed to signing their documents in the states and just having a ceremony in Italy), the ceremony was performed by the mayor of Poppi… or at least that’s what we gathered because the ceremony was also done in Italian. It was awesome, authentic and very Adam and Shawna. We LOVED it.
After the ceremony we did some portraits around the castle for a bit… How could we not? I mean…really.
Then they took a little coffee break – 3,000% love it!
Then we headed down into the medieval part of Poppi for more photos and a few opportunities to make some old Italian men feel real awkward.
Then we went back to the villa for the reception. We took advantage of the perfect weather, epic views, the lake, and the beautifully dense forest. The timing was perfect as we captured a few more images during the sunset.
The receptions was a huge family styled dinner on the back patio of the villa. Local wine got the party started and kept it going for a good long while.
