Travelin' to and from South Africa
Well, we made it safely to South Africa and back again. What a great trip! We have TONS of content to go through and edit for Themba International (the nonprofit organization that we traveled and worked with (photo/design/video) while in S.Africa – we’ll post more about that at a later date). What a stellar group to be working with, we feel completely honored to help Jeff and his team as they set out to make a difference in South Africa and The States. We have lots and LOTS to edit and share, but for now, here’s a few quick TRAVEL snapshots from trekking to the other side of the globe.
When we weren’t shooting, scripting, dreaming, filming or creating content for Themba, we were spending time in/near the ocean (it’s their summer season down there, so the weather and ocean were downright pleasant). The casa we bunked at was literally on the sand of a small beach called Herolds Bay (shown above), we enjoyed the beautiful ocean on a daily basis… taking in the smell, the breeze, the warmth and the ocean critters – a shark was even sited in the water during one of our surf sessions :) We spent a morning cage diving in one of the sharkiest places on planet earth – Mossel Bay – those crazy slow-motion shark attack clips in the series “Planet Earth” were filmed in that very same bay :) It’s home to a massive population of Great White Sharks.
We came face to face with three different Great White sharks. It was an experience of a lifetime… thank God for the cage bars. The massive beasts were literally three feet from the cage (these are all wide angle shots).
On our way back home we had a super long layover at JFK, so we spent the day running around downtown New York City… eating street vendor food, loadin’ up on some great coffee, walking through Central Park and chillin’ in Grand Central Station… we had to have walked at least 4,000 miles in the 40 degree weather… kept us warm anyways :)
Here’s a few parting shots from the air – where we spent A LOT of time the last two weeks :) It takes roughly 36 hours of transit to get from San Diego to South Africa… blerg. Totally worth it, but exhausting nonetheless.
